The legend of Ayers Rock
Australia's Ayers Rock is also known as Ayas Rock, also known as Uluru. Ayers Rock is 335 meters high and 3,000 meters long, with a base circumference of about 9.4 kilometers, high and wide in the east and low and narrow in the west, making it the largest monolithic rock in the world.
It is imposing, like a natural monument that transcends time and space, protruding from the vast wilderness, emitting charming brilliance under the dazzling sun.
Uluru - Kata Tjuta National Park is an internationally recognized World Heritage area. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, both cultural and natural.
First listed as a World Heritage Site in 1987, its geographical structure, rare flora and fauna and extraordinary natural beauty are fully recognized.
In 1994, it was listed as a cultural heritage, and the traditional value system of the Anangu, the traditional owner of Uluru, was affirmed. The Anangu are one of the oldest ethnic groups in the world.
Why Ayers Rock was formed
Theory of geological movement
450 million years ago, the Amadeus Basin, where the boulders are located, pushed upward to form large blocks of rock due to crustal movements. Due to the uplift and overlap of the block, the giant rock is in a vertical state.
About 300 million years ago, another miraculous movement of the Earth's crust pushed this huge rock mountain out of the sea. After tens of millions of years of weathering, the surrounding sandstone has weathered and disintegrated, only this boulder with its unique hardness to resist the wind and rain erosion, and the whole has no cracks and fractures, geomorphology said "erosion residual stone".
But long-term erosion has made its top smooth and shiny, and has formed a number of top-down grooves and shallow pits of varying widths in the surrounding cliffs. Therefore, whenever the rain falls, the waterfall on the sides of the boulder is spectacular.
Meteorite theory
Other scientists believe that hundreds of millions of years ago, an asteroid orbiting close to the Earth deviated from its orbit, fell into the atmosphere and eventually fell here. Two-thirds of the rock sank into the ground, and one-third emerged from the ground, where geological changes such as uplift and weathering formed Ayers Rock today.
The legend of Ayers Rock
Uluru is a sacred place of great religious and cultural significance. The Aboriginal Anangu people have lived around Uluru for tens of thousands of years, and Uluru is a place where they gather for meetings.
In the strange caves of Uluru, you can also see the ancient paintings and rock carvings left by the ancestors of the Aborigines, with clear lines and numerous circles, using simple techniques to show their cognition of the world and the sacred stories spread among the aborigines.
In the eyes of the Anangu people, it is their ancestors who created this land and this immortal stone, and they are the successors to maintain this land.
In addition, Uluru is located in the center of Australia, the Ananggu people believe that this boulder is the soul and heart of Australia, is an inviolable sacred stone, in addition to holding adult ceremonies or sacrificial activities, they do not want people to climb at will.
