French President Emmanuel Macron announced on March 27, 2018 that starting from the 2019 school year, the legal school age will be lowered from 6 to 3 years old. The move will give France one of the lowest compulsory school starting ages in Europe.
In Australia, each state has a different date of entry. Students in New South Wales, where Sydney is located, must be five years old on 31 July, while those in Victoria and the Capital Territory, where Melbourne is located, must be five years old on 30 April. In Queensland, Western Australia and the Northern Territory it is 30 June, while in Tasmania it is 1 January.
In the United States, school entry rules vary from state to state, but in most states the school entry age is five (starting preschool at five and starting first grade at six). Primary education in the UK generally lasts until the age of 11 and then enters secondary school.
In principle, the school age in Germany is 6 years old, and children whose birthdays are before August 30 can choose to enter school that year. In Hong Kong, China, the Education Bureau stipulates that children aged 5 years and 8 months can enter Primary 1. (Xiao Bian reminds parents that children can apply for primary school at the age of 4 years and 8 months!) Why eight months later? Because the difference between December 31 and August 31 is 4 months, 12-4=8.
The age limit for children in the enrollment process will be relaxed, and the deadline for primary school enrollment will no longer be limited to August 31.
