It brandished its teeth and claws, and told the people viciously that if the people did not send the pigs, cows, and sheep to the place it said, it would make rain and flood the crops. The people were afraid and had to agree to it. When the dragon agreed, he took his spell and went away to wait for his meal.
When the dragon was gone, the people had to send their cattle away, as they did every year. In a few years the animals were eaten up by the dragon, but the dragon still demanded them every day, and the amount of food he ate grew larger and larger. One day, an old man with a white beard, who was begging for food, came to this place, and when he heard about this, he said to the people, "This is a dragon; it must not be used for evil any more; it must be removed." The people were glad to hear him say this, but at once they hesitated: can such an old man get rid of the dragon? We don't want to hurt him. When it got dark, when it was time to bring food to the dragon, the people did what the old man said. The dragon was hungry, and when he saw so many things, he began to eat and drink. It was really a whirlwind, and soon he was full of wine and food and fell asleep. At this moment, the old man stepped out of the crowd, reached out his coat, pulled out a tower like a little finger, and threw it over the dragon. Strange to say, the tower grew very large when it saw the wind, and suddenly covered the dragon, who was still dreaming his dream.
When people saw this, they were shocked, and when they remembered to thank the old man, he was gone. They shouted all around, heard a voice above them, looked up and saw that it was the old man, and they all knelt down and kowtowed. I heard the old man say in midair, "I was sent by the Jade Emperor to get rid of the dragon." The dragon is pinned down by the tower. It will never do evil again. From now on, plant your crops and enjoy your lives." Then he disappeared.
