Who first discovered Antarctica

There are several theories about when Antarctica was first discovered, but it is generally accepted that the continent was first truly discovered on January 30, 1820.

On this day, an expedition led by Russian explorer Bellingshausen reached the Antarctic continent. Before that, although some explorers had discovered islands near Antarctica, they had not actually discovered the continent itself.
