Who has the most power, the Queen or the Prime Minister
Britain is a constitutional monarchy, which is something we all know from reading the recent history of the world. In 1688, a bloodless bourgeois revolution broke out in England, called the Glorious Revolution. In October 1689, under the leadership of the British bourgeoisie, the Bill of Rights was formulated. Of course, the Bill of Rights was not a real British Constitution, but an important legal document in the British bourgeois revolution, which established the principle that Parliament had more power than the crown.
The so-called constitutional monarchy was designed to limit the power of the king, but legally, the real power was the Parliament of the United Kingdom, mainly the House of Commons. The British Parliament has more power than the king. So in this sense, in the United Kingdom, the power of the Queen is certainly less powerful than that of the Prime Minister.
Because the United Kingdom is a parliamentary system of government, there is no direct election of the prime minister, but a plurality of British parties compete for seats in the House of Commons, and the leader of the party with the most seats can be the first choice and begin to form a government. In other words, the Prime Minister is the majority leader of the House of Commons and controls Parliament through his political party. And the power of Parliament is greater than that of the King of England, from this point of view, the power of the British prime Minister is naturally greater than that of the Queen of England.
Of course, the Queen's power is limited, but not without a little power, the Queen is still the nominal head of state of the United Kingdom, he is the symbol of the United Kingdom, of course, her job is to preside over various British ceremonies, is the bond of the whole British people. In addition, from a constitutional point of view, the Queen has the right to dismiss and appoint prime ministers at will, although this power cannot be easily used. The Queen is also Commander-in-Chief of the British armed forces, so Britain has the Royal Navy and the Royal Air Force, and the Queen has the power to declare war and sign treaties.
The Queen is also the co-head of the Commonwealth of Nations and has great influence in the world. To be precise, due to the constitutional monarchy of the United Kingdom, many of the powers of the Queen of England are limited, not to say that there are no circumstances in which the Queen of England can exercise her own powers.
Under normal circumstances, because the power of the British king is limited, there is no real power, and the real power is basically in the British House of Commons and the cabinet government led by the prime minister.
